Memorial of Saint Lucy, Virgin & Martyr

Is 41:13-20; Ps. 145:1, 9, 10-11, 12-13; Mt 11:11-15

As the darkness of winter approaches, it is easy to allow struggles and worries to overcome us. The aches and pains of aging. The turbulent condition of our Church and world. The uncertainty of the future of the Congregation and its Institutions. It is precisely in this muck and grime of life that God speaks the loudest. Our Franciscan commitment to continuous conversion inspires us to allow God each day to make us sharp and new. All we need to do is make the effort and let God handle the results.

On this Feast Day of St. Lucy, let us fervently ask God’s help to overcome our struggles and worries so we can not only prepare ourselves during the rest of this Advent Season for the Light of the World, but birth this Light to a world in significant need. Sound impossible? Fear not, for nothing is impossible for God!
