Memorial of Saint John of the Cross, Priest & Doctor of the Church

Is 48:17-19; Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4, 6; Mt 11:16-19

As teachers, our lives revolve around schedules, routine, and control. We often see ourselves as “the master” of our students. We tell them, “This is important. You MUST learn this. LISTEN!” However, how many of us take our own advice? Do we listen? Do we learn? Do we trust that God will lead us on the way of salvation?

This is a difficult lesson for many teachers, and in our arrogance and pride, we try to control God’s plan for us, as if we know best. But in our busy, ordered lives, perhaps WE are the ones who need to hear that call to learn first. If we hearken to God’s commands and give up the control we think we must have, God WILL lead us in the way of truth. Let us always stop, listen, and learn from God…He will never lead us astray.
