Feast of Saint John, Apostle & Evangelist
1Jn 1:1-4; Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12; Jn 20:1, 2-8
Here it is! December 27th, the Feast of St. John, Apostle and evangelist two days after Christmas when Jesus came into the world and we hear a resurrection story of Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter and “the other disciple whom Jesus loved”. Of course that disciple is John the Evangelist the author of the Gospel and the disciple who always had a special relationship with Jesus. In the Gospel today four words jump out as the summation of all faith in Jesus.
John’s Gospel concludes with “He saw and believed”. That’s what John suggested when he entered the Tomb of Jesus. That moment was so powerful and so transforming he was able to take that step.
During this Christmas season let us “see and believe: that Jesus came into the world to change our heart and help us to believe.
